2008 YAWA Winner
Telethon Speech & Hearing and Burswood Entertainment Complex is thrilled to announce Miik Green of Maylands as the winner of YAWA (Young Artists With Artitude).
Miik’s piece, ‘Do You Want It Like That?’ won the acquisitive YAWA Award, receiving a prize of $5,000 from Burswood Entertainment Complex.
Miik was presented with his award at the annual Artitude event on Saturday 7 June. Congratulations Miik!
Thank you to all YAWA finalists for your involvement. YAWA artworks had high levels of exposure in both the YAWA and Artitude exhibitions.
About YAWA
In 2008, Telethon Speech & Hearing in conjunction with Burswood Entertainment Complex is introducing a new award called YAWA (Young Artists with Artitude).
Artists dedicated to pursuing art as a career, aged 18-35, will be eligible to compete.
YAWA Artists would be required to create not more than two artworks to be ready by 30 April. These artworks will be exhibited in a special preview exhibition in the InterContinental Perth Burswood Lobby from 12 May to 5 June. Over 12,500 patrons visit the complex daily and this is a great opportunity for young artists to exhibit their artwork. This exhibition will then be part of the prestigious Artitude exhibition.
The YAWA exhibition will be launched by Burswood Entertainment Complex on Tuesday 13 May at a cocktail party for 50 executives, arts patrons and YAWA finalists.
The winner will be announced at the exclusive Artitude cocktail party on Saturday 7 June.
The YAWA prize provided by Burswood Entertainment Complex is valued at $5,000 and is inclusive of the purchase of the prizewinning piece of art, i.e. the artist will receive the proceeds after the statutory commission is paid to the gallery and Telethon Speech & Hearing.
